The Squadron was formed on May 25, 1953, as the 3600th Air
Demonstration Unit and activated at Luke AFB, Arizona. The squadron chose the
Thunderbird
as its symbol due to the association with Native American lore of the Southwestern
U.S., where the squadron was based.
